The guidelines below have been followed with a positive and proactive purpose for the entire duration of Salix Associates. These are actual practices.
MINIMIZE:
- consumption of natural resources, including products made from extracted materials such as metals, oil (including plastics) and wood (including paper)
- consumption of energy, including transportation
- environmental impacts such as air pollution, surface water and groundwater pollution and production of solid waste
- biological pollution by avoiding movement or introduction of exotic plant and animal species
- purchase of non-essential items
- purchase of non-local items
MAXIMIZE:
- reuse and recycling of materials
- purchase of recycled materials (when purchase is needed)
- purchase of locally-made products from nearby, locally-owned sources
- capture and use of solar energy for hot water heating
